South Carolina Continued

Below are more pictures from our vacation in South Carolina.  Such a great time!  With Hurricane Earl approaching the East Coast it makes me remember our time on the beaches and makes me hope that all will be well for those who live there.  The Carolina coast is so beautiful and natural.  My favorite parts are the marsh areas.  Of course the beaches are beautiful as well.  We stayed on the Isle of Palms and it was a wonderful set up with a family friendly beach/pool area.  The beach was our main hangout, but we also spent quite a bit of time exploring the city of Charleston and driving around Sullivan’s Island and Mount Pleasant.  One afternoon Mom, Cat, the kids and I partook in a carriage ride around Charleston.  It was great to hear some of the history behind the city.  The munchkins did great thanks to snacks and sprite.  Other highlights would have to be the food in this great area.  The seafood and southern food is out of this world.  We managed to hit most of the recommended spots we were given and they were all fabulous recommendations!  Of course the best part of the trip was being with family.  It was great to just spend time with each other and enjoy some peacefulness.  SC, we miss you!

  

In Charleston on the carriage ride.  It was stifling hot.  We waited in a barn area that had a small petting zoo.  The kids touching the animals and anything around the area freaked mom out and she was constantly wiping their hands with wet wipes. 

 

Above are pictures from a restaurant on Shem’s Creek.  What fabulous views.  In the background you can see what the marsh area looks like.  The grass from the marsh’s, sweet grass, is what the famous sweet grass baskets are made from.  It is an art the Gullah women have mastered and you can see them selling their “not so cheap” baskets in the Charleston slave market.

Eleanor on the Beach

E was much easier to photograph on the beach.  She did not care to venture too far off and she often stayed near her chair.  Not too fond of getting dirty in the sand.  One day she opted to just go inside and watch Barbie Princess.  In the background to you can see what some of the houses look like along the beach.

 

Hudson was a beach bum!  He loved every minute of the beach, especially boogie boarding.  He was very good on the boogie board and inspired all of us to take a turn as well.  Even RaRa mastered the boogie board.  Hud and I were very into shell collecting.  He managed to pick up any and every black oyster shell he could find.  Finally, by the end of the week, I had him trained in looking for sand dollars.  I managed to find about 10 whole (not broken) sand dollars.  However, the trip home did most of them in. Hud was also a master at building sand castles.  He and Aunt Cat built a rather large one together.

I know there are more pictures of the trip, but this is a sampling of some of the highlights.  We look forward to returning to this special spot soon.
